COAST BOSS

 

The Patrão de Costa charter is part of our recreational sailing courses. In this course, you will have access to all the knowledge necessary to navigate safely, with the title and certificate of Patrão de Costa and in accordance with national navigation rules.

Pre-registration for the Patrão de Costa charter can be done through our website, in person at our recreational sailing school, or also by telephone or email, only becoming definitive upon payment of the down payment. The remaining course payment will be settled at the beginning and during the course.

The coast boss letter entitles its holder to the management of pleasure craft:

  • No power limits;

  • Up to a distance of 40 miles from the coast.

Course details:

  • Patrão de Costa charter courses are held with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 students.

  • Duration of 65 hours (50 hours of theory and 15 hours of practice);

  • Organized by modules, lasting 5 to 6 weeks;

  • Theoretical training: 15 classes during the week from 7 pm to 11 pm;

  • Practical training: Saturday, Sunday or Holiday morning or afternoon;

  • Exams: Saturday, Sunday or Holiday at 09:00 according to DGRM confirmation (ex-IPTM);

  • Use of material included;

  • Examination and charter fees included.

Inclusion criteria:

  • Letter from Sailing and Motor Owner or Local Owner;

  • With at least one year between exams.

  • Copy of Tax Identification Number;

Theory:

  • Recap of the subjects of the program of the Local Patron course, on security, navigation and communications;

  • General notions of stability: center of gravity, center of carena and metacentre; transverse stability and longitudinal stability; effects of moving weights on stability;

  • Odometers. Verification of its operation;

  • Coastal navigation. Definition. Visual aids to navigation. Headlights. Lists of navigational aids. Simultaneous and successive position lines. Distances, directions, depths, capable segments, guards, threads and alignments. Determination of the point, its consistency and errors in navigation. Planning a trip;

  • Estimated Navigation. Definition. Carding and esteem. Chains. Determination of the estimated point. Accuracy of the estimated point;

  • Navigation in restricted waters. Definition. Visual aids to navigation. Marking. Driving navigation in restricted waters. Planning. Navigation aid publications. Radar. Use of radar in navigation. Navigation without visibility. Prevention of collisions;

  • Generalities on electronic navigation: radio direction finders; GPS; probes; systems description; range; use; rigor. Electronic letters;

  • Deflection of the needles. Ways to determine it. Table of deviations;

  • Sextant: nomenclature and optical principle; angle reading; sextant grinding; index error: your determination;

  • Tides. Tidal succession; most important definitions; forecast of the hours and heights of water at high and low tides; calculation of the height of water at any instant and the time corresponding to a given height of water;

  • Knowledge of the subjects included in the examination program for obtaining the class A radiotelephone operator certificate. GMDSS system;

  • nautical meteorology. The Earth's atmosphere. Meteorological elements. General circulation of the atmosphere. Air masses. Front surfaces. Fronts. Summary analysis of a weather chart. Weather forecast elements. Weather information on board. weatherfax and navtex;

  • Security: fire prevention and attacks; fault limitation; rescue means and equipment; procedures in case of abandonment; safety and survival at sea; man overboard; Epirb; navigation safety;

  • International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea;

  • International Code of Signals (CIS);

  • First aid basics.

Practice:

  • Practical application, at sea, of the navigation, safety and communication subjects contained in the theoretical part;

  • Practical application of navigation rules to avoid collisions;

  • Use of radar with a view to identifying the coast and determining azimuths and distances; Use of the sextant to determine vertical and horizontal angles;

  • Use of GPS and probe;

  • Calculation of the height of water at any moment and the time corresponding to a given height of water;

  • Correct use of radio equipment authorized by the class A radiotelephone operator certificate.
